About Me

Assalaamualaikum, I’m Issa. A young Muslim, traversing the uncertainties of modern life. Here we explore culture, politics, philosophy, religion, literature, travel and more. Whether you're searching for honest reflections on the modern Muslim identity, travel inspiration or book recommendations, you've come to the right place.

But, who am I? Currently, I am at university, studying Politics and Philosophy in Manchester; the best city in the world, where I have spent most of my life. I am the Creative Director of Fadhl and I host the Firmly Rooted podcast.

I am truly passionate about the pursuit of excellence as a young Muslim, growing up in the West. Our parents and grandparents came to this country and were thrust into 'survival mode', their lives were shaped around producing stability and now, what a shame it would be, if we fall victims to this comfortable life. Where is the ambition? Where is the desire to be change-makers? When will it be that we see Muslims rising to the very top of this capitalist food chain without sacrificing their values?

I hope this blog highlights the ways by which young Muslims can be proud of projecting their identity onto the world, regardless of their environment, maybe its at university or in work, or even online. Our love for Islam should be imperious, we should find the influence and beauty of Islam in every part of our life, perhaps we find it in Dostoevsky or in Bosnian architecture; but ultimately our Islam is present across the globe, it isn't restricted to the borders of the weekly khutba. The prouder we are of our faith, the stronger our internal conviction and the bolder our external influence.

Join me, each week, as we explore how Islam influences every element of our life; we'll discuss topical issues, tackle difficulties so many young muslims day to day and rejoice in the beauty of writing and reading whilst we're at it.

Faithfully, Issa,
